About Jaisalmer Explore
A travel company based in Jaisalmer, running its own desert camp at Sam, its own camels and safari jeeps, and its own taxi fleet.
A Jaisalmer company, run from Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Explore is a travel company based in the city, not a booking platform operating from somewhere else. Our office is at Bhatia Muktidham near Naman Haveli, and our camp sits on the dune edge at Sam, 42 km west.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. A great deal of what is sold as a Jaisalmer desert camp online is resold three or four times before it reaches the ground, and by the time a guest arrives at a tent, nobody in the chain is actually responsible for it. When something needs fixing at 9 pm on the dunes — a heater that has failed, a group that arrived two hours late, a guest who needs a doctor — the question is whether the person who took your booking can do anything about it.
What we own, and what we don't
The camp at Sam is ours. So are the camels, the safari jeeps, the quad bikes and the taxi fleet. Our staff are on our payroll rather than hired per booking through the season.
City hotel rooms are the exception. Those we book with partner properties we have used for years, which is why we ask what star category you want instead of putting everyone in the same place. We would rather say plainly which parts of your trip we control than imply we own a hotel we do not.
How we price
Every rate is published on this site — the tour packages, the four tent tiers, the full taxi fare table. That is a deliberate choice, and an uncomfortable one in this market, where the normal practice is to quote each customer privately after guessing what they will pay.
Publishing prices means we cannot charge two guests different amounts for the same tent. It also means we lose enquiries to operators who quote lower and add the difference at the camp gate. We would rather lose those.
Six things we hold ourselves to
Published prices
What is on this site is what you pay. Nothing is added at the camp gate, and the WhatsApp quote matches the web page.
One coordinator per trip
The person who quotes you handles your trip start to finish and stays reachable on WhatsApp throughout. Not a rota, not a queue.
Driver details in advance
Name, photo and vehicle number sent the night before every transfer. If the vehicle changes, you hear it from us first.
Animal welfare
Camels work a capped number of trips a day, rest completely from April to June, and are seen by a vet on schedule. Jeeps go to the same sunset point for anyone who would rather not ride.
Honest camp location
Our camp is on the dune edge and we send a map pin before you pay. Plenty of Sam listings are 8 to 10 km back down the Dhanana road with no dunes at all.
Solo and female travellers
Tents near the reception block on request, and a female attendant on the evening shift. Jaisalmer sees a lot of solo travellers and we would rather be specific than reassuring.

Frequently asked questions
Is Jaisalmer Explore a local company?
Yes. We are based in Jaisalmer at Bhatia Muktidham near Naman Haveli, and our camp is at Sam. We are not a booking site reselling someone else's camp from another city, which matters when something needs fixing at 9 pm on the dunes.
Do you own your camp and vehicles?
The camp at Sam, the camels, the safari jeeps and the taxi fleet are ours. Hotel rooms in the city are the exception — those we book with partner properties, which is why we ask which star category you want rather than assuming.
Why book direct instead of through a travel portal?
Price, mostly. Portals take a commission that has to come from somewhere, and it usually comes out of what reaches the ground. Booking direct also means the person quoting you is the person who can change your itinerary at 10 pm, rather than a ticket in a queue.
What areas do you cover?
Jaisalmer city and district, and nothing beyond it. Sam and Khuri dunes, the abandoned Paliwal villages at Kuldhara and Khaba, Lodurva and Amar Sagar, the border sites at Tanot and Longewala, and the Desert National Park. We do not sell tours or taxis to other cities, because we could not run them to the standard we run these.
How do I know the price will not change on arrival?
Because the prices are published on this website rather than quoted privately per customer. What is on the tour packages page, the camping page and the taxi fare table is what you pay. If a rate changes seasonally, it changes on the site first.
