Desert camping
Our camp at Sam Sand Dunes, 42 km west of the city
Tents sit on a raised platform with real beds, attached western bathrooms and running hot water — not the row of canvas sheds along the main road. Evenings run to a fixed schedule so nobody misses the sunset.
A standard night runs like this: camel or jeep out to the dunes around 4:30 pm, back for tea by 7 pm, Kalbelia dance and fire performance from 8 pm, dinner at 9 pm around the bonfire, breakfast the next morning and check-out at 9 am.

Camel Safari
The classic 45 to 60 minute ride out to sunset point with a handler walking alongside. Fine for children and first-timers. Overnight camel treks on request.

Thirty minutes of modified Thar and Gypsy over deep sand, driven by dune specialists. Roll bars and belts fitted. Not advised in the first trimester or with back injuries.

Planning your trip to Jaisalmer
Best time to visit
October to March is the season — days around 22–28°C and cold desert nights near 5°C in December and January. February brings the Desert Festival. April to June crosses 45°C and most camps shut. July to September is quiet, cheaper and occasionally wet.
How to reach
Jaisalmer Airport runs seasonal flights from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai, mostly October to March. The overnight train from Delhi and Jaipur is the reliable route year-round. By road it is about 5 hours from Jodhpur, 6 from Bikaner, 10 from Jaipur.
How many days you need
Two nights covers the fort, the havelis and one night at the dunes without rushing. Three nights lets you add the Tanot and Longewala border run. One night works only for the camp, and only if you arrive on a morning train.
What to pack
Layers, because the day-to-night swing is 15–20°C in winter. Closed shoes for the fort's stone lanes, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen and a scarf for the dune wind. Carry cash — network gets patchy past Sam.
Sam or Khuri dunes
Sam is larger and busier, with the full activity spread and bigger camps. Khuri sits 45 km south, quieter, with smaller family-run camps and much darker night skies. We operate at both, so tell us which you'd rather.
Booking and payment
A small advance confirms your dates and the balance is payable on arrival by UPI, card or cash. Free cancellation up to 72 hours before check-in, outside the festival weeks.

What is the cost of a Jaisalmer desert camp per night?
A Swiss tent with dinner, breakfast, camel safari and the cultural programme starts at ₹1,499 per person per night. Deluxe tents start at ₹2,400 and luxury air-conditioned tents at ₹4,200. Rates rise during the Desert Festival, Christmas week and long weekends.
How many days are enough for Jaisalmer?
Two nights and three days is the sweet spot. That covers Jaisalmer Fort, the havelis, Gadisar Lake and Bada Bagh on one day, and a full evening and night at Sam Sand Dunes on the other. Add a third night if you want the Tanot and Longewala border tour.
Is the camel safari safe for children and older people?
Yes. A handler walks alongside every camel and the animals move at walking pace on a fixed route. Children from about five years can ride with a parent. If anyone in the group is uncomfortable, we move them into a jeep at no extra cost.
Do I need a permit for the Tanot and Longewala border tour?
Indian nationals need a photo ID, which we submit at the checkpoint on your behalf. Foreign nationals need prior clearance and passport details at least 48 hours in advance, and access to some points is at the discretion of the BSF on the day.
Which is better, Sam or Khuri sand dunes?
Sam has the bigger dunes, all the adventure activities and larger camps with full facilities, but it gets crowded at sunset. Khuri is quieter and better for stargazing and a slower evening. First-time visitors usually prefer Sam.
Do you provide airport and railway station pickup in Jaisalmer?
Yes, at any hour. Jaisalmer Airport transfers start at ₹600 for a sedan, and railway station pickups are often included free within packages of two nights or more. Send us your train or flight number and the driver will be waiting.
How do I pay, and can I cancel?
A small advance by UPI or bank transfer confirms the booking, and the balance is due on arrival by cash, card or UPI. Cancellations more than 72 hours before check-in are refunded in full, outside festival and peak dates.
Is Jaisalmer safe for solo female travellers?
Broadly yes, and it is a common solo destination. At our camp you can request a tent near the reception block and a female attendant on the evening shift. We share your driver's name, photo and vehicle number before every transfer.
